Update on CCCS work by HeNan Hongli Hospital in HeNan, China.

In December 2025 we shared an update about the first conference in China focused around the Clinical Care Classification System. That conference, ‘Transforming Nursing Practice: Leveraging Standards, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Patient Outcomes’ was hosted by HeNan Hongli Hospital in HeNan, China.

Below we share another update, as relayed by Yang Lei, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer update about work presented by HeNan Honlli Hospital at the  Asia-Pacific Association for Medical Informatic Conference in Chengdu, China, on August 21–22. A report of activities can also be viewed online (Google Drive)

“At the conference, I led our team in an academic presentation and hands-on workshop focused on the Clinical Care Classification (CCC) System and its translation into an intelligent nursing information system. In the workshop chaired by Professor Polun Chang, I presented our work, “From Standardized Nursing Terminology to AI Nursing Practice: Development and Application of an Intelligent Nursing Information System Based on the CCC System.” Our team then demonstrated the CCC-enabled system and guided participants through practical applications.

The experience reinforced an important point for us: CCC becomes most valuable when standardized nursing terminology is translated into everyday clinical workflows and generates reusable nursing data. In our practice, CCC has provided a foundation for structured nursing documentation, clinical decision support, nursing data analysis, quality improvement, research, interoperability, and emerging AI applications.

On August 22, I also delivered a keynote at the AI Nursing Informatics and Digital Health Forum on the localization of CCC in China. Our experience suggests that successful implementation requires not only terminology mapping, but also adaptation to local nursing practice, frontline nurse engagement, workflow integration, education, and appropriate governance.

Our team also presented five English-language posters on CCC implementation, intelligent nursing systems, and nursing data standardization. Three team members—Yujuan Wu, Xiaolin Wang, and Xiaoyu Liu—received Excellent Poster Awards.

Looking Ahead: Our next priority is to help move CCC from awareness to sustained clinical use—as a shared nursing language embedded in practical systems and supported by implementation methods, education, and evidence. We hope to work more closely with the international CCC community in several areas:

  • International dissemination and education on CCC concepts and implementation
  • Cross-cultural localization and terminology mapping while maintaining semantic consistency
  • Multi-site research and validation of CCC-enabled nursing information systems
  • Interoperability between CCC-based nursing data and broader health information systems
  • Responsible use of standardized nursing data for research, clinical decision support, and AI-enabled nursing.

We are very proud to contribute to the development and application of CCC in China, and we see this as part of a much larger international journey. I sincerely hope that our experience in China can contribute to the broader CCC community, while we continue to learn from and collaborate with colleagues around the world.”
