The CCCS at MedInfo 2025: Transforming Nursing Practice with Standards, Technology, and AI

In case you missed it – we want to draw attention, and give thanks to the panel presentation at MEDINFO 2025 in Taipei: “Transforming Nursing Practice: Leveraging Standards, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Patient Outcomes.”  This presentation was originally proposed by the CCC International Advisory Board.

Borrowing from the conference abstract: “The panel convened a global panel of nurse informaticians from the United States, Finland, and South Korea in advancing the conversation on how technology and standards are shaping the future of nursing. Led by experts including Drs Patricia Dykes (Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School), Suzanne Bakken (Columbia University), Insook Cho (Inha University), Anna Vahteristo (University of Eastern Finland), and Anne Moen (University of Oslo), the initiative highlighted how artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies can enhance patient outcomes.

The session emphasized the critical role of standards such as the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP), Clinical Care Classification (CCC), and ISO 18104:2023 in promoting consistent documentation, clear communication, and streamlined workflows. By harnessing real-time patient data, data warehouses, and Health Information Exchange (HIE), these frameworks create a strong foundation for AI-driven decision-making in nursing practice.

Importantly, the panel underscores the ethical dimensions of this transformation—protecting data privacy, safeguarding patient autonomy, and ensuring the responsible application of AI. Through case examples and cross-country perspectives, the discussion demonstrated how nurses can use technology and standards not only to improve efficiency and quality of care but also to uphold the dignity and rights of patients.”
